Background
Throughout high school I played basketball at national level and also badminton at club level and participated at most other sports at a recreational level, sport was pretty much my first and foremost at school. Come the summer of 2000 basketball was starting to loose it’s appeal and I was looking for something new to try. Lucky for me it was the summer of the Sydney Olympics and my introduction to triathlon. After watching the men’s and women’s races myself and training partner Richard Morton decided triathlon was the sport for us, after all I’d done a bit of cross country running in school and ran a 10k before (albeit in about 50 odd mins) why not give it a go.
After doing my first triathlon on New Year’s Day 01 I’ve never looked back. I have never found a sport that has excited me more and kept me striving to go faster and train harder. Barring missing one season due to glandular fever, I’ve continually improved in all three disciplines and achieved standards I never would have dreamed of when embarking on my first triathlon. But it doesn’t stop there, so far I’ve raced for Great Britain in the age group squads at World and European Duathlon and Triathlon Championships, and raced Ironman but I still feel there’s more to come. Over the next few years I will be targeting winning World championship medals at Olympic distance triathlon and qualifying for the World Ironman Championships in Hawaii. I also plan to tackle the off road side of triathlon and compete at the world Xterra championships in Maui. Watch this space for the progress.
